FAQs

Are children grouped by age or ability

Classes are grouped primarily by age (based on birth month) to match developmental stages. Instructors provide progressions and challenges within each class, so children are encouraged at their own level.

What skills will my child gain?

Children work on:Balance and coordination

- Strength and flexibility
- Body control and spatial awareness
- Basic gymnastics skills on bars, beams, floor, and trampolines
- Listening skills, focus, and following directions
- Confidence and independence

Does my child need gymnastics experience?

That’s very common at this age. Instructors are experienced in helping children feel comfortable and confident. Most children adjust quickly as they become familiar with the class routine.

Parents can be reassured that their child is always supervised by certified, trained coaches, even though they are not physically on the floor.

What if my child is shy or has trouble separating?

That’s very common at this age. Instructors are experienced in helping children feel comfortable and confident. Most children adjust quickly as they become familiar with the class routine.

Parents can be reassured that their child is always supervised by certified, trained coaches, even though they are not physically on the floor.

Is this class safe?

Yes. Classes are led by trained instructors in a padded gymnastics space, and parents stay with their child the entire time.

What if my child is advanced?

If a child is significantly advanced, placement options can be discussed.

How can I tell if my child is improving?

Improvement shows in many ways, including increased confidence, better balance, stronger movements, improved coordination, and greater comfort with equipment and class routines. Outside the gym, parents often notice their child moving with more control, climbing and jumping more confidently at playgrounds, falling and getting back up more easily, sitting and listening for longer periods, and showing greater willingness to try new physical activities. Instructors track progress in class and introduce new challenges as skills develop.

Do parents stay in the gym?

Preschool Gymnastics is the first class where children participate without a parent on the floor. Parents watch the class live on large screen monitors around the gym. This helps children focus on their instructor and build independence. It’s normal for some children to take a little time to adjust, and coaches are experienced in supporting them through this transition.

What should my child wear?

Comfortable athletic clothing is recommended. Bare feet are best for safety and proper movement.

How does Preschool Gymnastics prepare my child for future classes or sports?

Gymnastics builds foundational movement skills that support success in all sports. Children also learn class structure, focus, and confidence, making it a strong stepping stone into advanced gymnastics or other athletic programs.

Levels 1 - 3

Developmental Team

Developmental Team (Levels 1–3) is Mokara’s foundation programme for future competitive success. Training focuses on exceptional basics across all events, with strong emphasis on body shapes, landing mechanics, strength and flexibility development, spatial awareness, and safe progressions for tumbling and event fundamentals. Gymnasts will participate in in-house competitions.

Athletes learn how to train with purpose—following structured stations, taking corrections, building consistency, and developing the mindset needed for competition later. The goal is not simply to collect skills, but to build the physical and technical foundation that makes higher levels safer, stronger, and more sustainable.

Levels 4 - Elite

High Performance Team

High Performance at Mokara is built on the belief that there is no one-size-fits-all athlete. While a strong foundation is non-negotiable, skill selection and competitive strategy are individualized—designed to help each athlete thrive by capitalizing on strengths while systematically addressing weaknesses and physical needs. Gymnasts will participate in competitions locally (and internationally, where applicable).

Training includes high-level technical progressions, event-specific planning, and performance preparation that develops athletes who can compete with confidence. The long-term aim is to support athletes toward their highest potential—whether that means national team pathways, college gymnastics, or building a standout competitive resume that supports future goals.

NCAA College Gymnastics

For families outside the U.S., college gymnastics recruitment can feel unclear—not because it’s impossible, but because athletes often lack visibility, guidance, and an understanding of the standard required. Mokara brings both structure and the training to match it.

NCAA College Gymnastics

For families outside the U.S., college gymnastics recruitment can feel unclear—not because it’s impossible, but because athletes often lack visibility, guidance, and an understanding of the standard required. Mokara brings both structure and the training to match it.

With years of experience in U.S. gymnastics systems, we guide families through a step-by-step pathway to make athletes genuinely college-ready: strong fundamentals, clean execution, competitive routines, and professional presentation. Our team has supported athletes to placements at highly selective universities and programs—including Stanford, Ivy League schools (Yale, Brown, Cornell, UPenn), and top NCAA programs across multiple divisions.

International Elite

For gymnasts aiming for the highest level, the International Elite pathway prepares athletes for national representation and major competitions—including regional/continental games, world championships, and the Olympics. With guidance from coaches like Cleo Washington, who has led U.S. national team athletes and developed gymnasts who went on to compete successfully on the world stage, Mokara provides the training, technical expertise, and strategic support required to reach elite international standards.

This pathway is for athletes with big ambitions—and at Mokara, we provide the coaching, environment, and guidance to help make those ambitions a reality.

Coachability, consistency, effort, focus, and a positive attitude—along with physical readiness and strong foundational movement.

How are athletes placed—by age or ability?

Competitive placement is based primarily on readiness and ability, with age considered to ensure appropriate pacing and group dynamics.

Can athletes move between pathways (Developmental, High Performance, Flourish)?

Yes. Pathways are designed to be flexible as athletes grow, goals change, and life seasons shift. Movement is guided by coach recommendation, readiness, physical preparation, and what best supports the athlete’s long-term success and wellbeing.

How do you support athlete wellbeing and injury prevention?

Mokara prioritizes long-term athlete development. Training emphasizes strong basics, safe progressions, strength and mobility work, and smart workload management. What if my child is advanced or has trained elsewhere?

Athletes transferring from other programmes can be evaluated for appropriate placement to ensure they’re challenged safely and set up for success.

How do athletes move up levels or progress?

Progression is based on mastery, consistency, physical preparation, confidence, and coach recommendation—not speed.
